At Binary Culture we know that the key to good company infrastructure is enabling people to work together. It’s a philosophy that extends beyond our products. In an effort to support Australian business and the fresh talent, Binary Culture’s activities include creating the Australian Innovation Network (AIN) and sponsoring the Nullarbor game development competition.

Australian Innovation Network

When Binary Culture’s founders realised that there was no central touchstone in Australia for innovators they decided that was an obvious gap to fill. Considering the time and money investment in innovation, and its cross-disciplinary nature, not to mention the experience required to take an innovative idea from conception to commercialisation, it seemed hard to believe that no central meeting ground had ever been set aside.

Binary Culture launched a possible solution, not just to be a good neighbour, but because it is a community we believe that will benefit companies across the country (Binary Culture very much included).

Nullarbor Competition

Binary Culture also sponsors the West Australian Nullarbor competition. This game development competition and demoscene party celebrates the physical isolation of Perth, and the unique approach to games it promotes in independent developers.

While the competition is worthy in itself (as is rewarding hard-working developers), what makes this something that really interests Binary Culture is that it gathers, in one place, the next generation of motivated and talented game developers, and showcases their abilities to the city and, more importantly, each other.

This is a rare and valuable thing in WA, since most Perth artists tend to target the world-stage before their own backyard. This is a viable path, but we’d like to see the Western Australian development community grow together, not break out one member at a time. It’s an infrastructure thing.
